Cybersecurity starts with each of us
An email that seems to come from a supplier, a file we receive unexpectedly, or a message asking us to act urgently. During a working day, these situations can go unnoticed among calls, meetings and pending tasks. Yet pausing for a moment before responding can help protect much more than our computer.
Cybersecurity also depends on the decisions we make every day. For Grupo Mora, raising employee awareness means focusing on people and their ability to look after the information that makes our work possible.
Behind every document, quotation or communication are projects, business relationships and the personal data of people who trust us. Protecting that information is a shared responsibility that requires technical measures, attention and good habits.
A pause that can make a difference
Imagine receiving an email from an apparent supplier asking us to open a document. We recognise the name, the message looks professional and we have little time. Before opening it, we should ask ourselves: were we expecting this file? Is the sender’s address the usual one? Does the request make sense?
Phishing uses the appearance of a legitimate communication to try to obtain information or prompt us to open malicious links and files. Recognising a logo or a name is therefore not enough to trust a message.
When something does not add up, the sensible thing to do is pause and verify the request through a known channel. A call to our usual contact can resolve a doubt before we share information or carry out a task.
Protection also lies in small habits
Paying attention to email is only one part of everyday care. Using strong passwords, locking our screen when we leave our desk and following equipment usage guidelines are simple actions that help prevent unauthorised access.
It is also worth checking who we are sending a document to and using company-approved tools to share it. Rushing can lead us to choose the wrong recipient or disclose information that person does not need.
Awareness means making these checks part of our routine, just as we review other aspects of our work before considering a task complete.
Asking questions and reporting concerns also protects the team
Anyone can make a mistake. If we have opened a suspicious link, downloaded an unexpected file or noticed something unusual, reporting it promptly enables those responsible for security to assess what happened and respond.
A culture of cybersecurity needs people to feel confident asking questions and reporting concerns, even when they are not sure there is a problem. The aim is to make a response possible and learn together.
At Grupo Mora, looking after information also means looking after our colleagues, customers and partners. Before clicking, sharing a document or responding to an unexpected request, let us take a few seconds to check. And when in doubt, let us ask. Protecting everyone starts with that small gesture too.
